How Long Will World’s Most Powerful Leaders Last?

In January 2018, International Strategic Analysis (ISA) published an article listing the world’s most powerful political leaders. Michael Weidokal, its Executive Director, delineated their criteria for Linkedin. To rank the various world leaders regarding the power and influence that they exercise on the global stage, ISA established a series of criteria with a score for each of these leader’s level of power and influence and weighted them accordingly. These criteria are:

  • International influence (20% of total score)
  • Hold on power (20% of total score)
  • Economic scale of their country (15% of total score)
  • Influence on economic policy (15% of total score)
  • The political and military scale of their country (15% of total score)
  • Influence on political and defence policy (15% of total score)

The rankings produced this list:

#1. United States President Donald Trump (84.0 points)

#2. Chinese President Xi Jinping (82.5 points)

#3. Russian President Vladimir Putin (54.8 points)

#4. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (41.5 points)

#5. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi (40.5 points)

#6. French President Emmanuel Macron (34.5 points)

#7. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (33.8 points)

#8. German Chancellor Angela Merkel (32.0 points)

#9. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (29.8 points)

#10. Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (28.3 points)
