Iceland Knows How To Stop Teen Substance Abuse.
This interesting long read is about teenagers coming out of substance abuse addiction. The approach is somewhat revolutionary and had been successfully applied in a test run in the USA, and a country-wide application in Iceland. It tracks the journey of Denver’s Metropolitan State University Psychology Professor Harvey Milkman, as he investigated addiction among teenagers and attempted to find a solution to help them recover from their dependence. The prior educational model of orientating teenagers and enforced withdrawal were not working, with high recidivism; teens did not respond positively nor were they interested in listening. His model was applied to a larger population group in Iceland, and in this article, he describes the development of his model and its successful outcome.
