Harbin Ice Festival 2017.

The Festival, established in 1985, is held annually, lasting for over one month. The official opening date of the 33rd Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, commonly known as Harbin Ice Festival, was January 5, 2017. Organized by Heilingjiang Provincial Government, Harbin Municipal Government and China National Tourism Administration, the event will last to the 25 February, 2017. It includes 3 theme parks: the 18th Harbin Ice and Snow World, the 29th Harbin Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo, and the 43rd Ice Lantern Fair. The workers and sculptors started in mid-December 2016 to put together their artistic pieces for the festival. If you visit Harbin for the Ice Festival, just try to avoid the Chinese lunar new year holiday (Jan 27 – Feb 3) if possible., as this is the peak period.

Harbin is the capital city of Heilongjiang Province and is China’s original and greatest ice artwork festival, attracting hundreds of thousands of local people and visitors from all over the world. The city’s location in northeast China accounts for its arctic climate which provides abundant natural ice and snow. Subsequently, the ‘Ice City’ of Harbin is recognized as the cradle of ice and snow art in China and is famous for its exquisite and artistic ice and snow sculptures. The fabulous Ice Lantern Festival is the forerunner of the Ice and Snow Festival and is still the best loved part of the overall event in the opinion of all who go to that city each year.
