Islands Of Mass Destruction.
I recalled when China was contemplating building on the reef islands of the South China Sea, she gave an undertaking that she would be eco-friendly in the construction process. Ecologists worldwide thought it incredulous that she could build airplane runways and piers for large ships, and armed battlements on reefs without harming them. Now we have the evidence how destructive the building process had been. This article reviews the aftermath of marine life at some of these islands: can you imagine swimming over a kilometre around a reef without seeing a single fish! Is it too late to repopulate marine life back to these islands that a few months ago was a pristine environment? Does China and other nations in Southeast Asia care over their natural habitat despite their territorial squabbles?
