Children Of The Opioid Crisis

Children Of The Opioid Crisis.

This WSJ investigative article by Jeanne Whalen centres us on the children left behind by addicts in the care of the social welfare departments, foster parents or grandparents. Most have probably seen their parents descend into drug dependency, and somehow coped with their elders’ erratic behaviours and decision-making processes, and deprivation, and coming out of it traumatised. With the clandestine availability of new opioid substances in the market, the cycle of increasing addiction is taxing both the social and law and order services. Some of these children were also born with opioids in their system. The article profiles three adoptive families.
