Blessed Are Those Who Mourn

Quite apart from physical injury, pain most often signify losses; from intimate separations to abandonment and betrayals, from safety through violence to natural disasters and wars, and it seems life is peppered with a multitude of losses. To allocate blame or to slip into a mood of belittling it in comparison to our gains does not assuage our losses. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” is appropriate; with the promise of a surprising gift of blessing amidst our grief as we come to terms with them. (Note that it is not those who comfort that will be blessed). Our deep gratitude to the One Who always accompanies us through our mourning.
