Photographs Of All 59 US National Parks.
The Greatest American Road Trip started on January 1, 2016 and ended on December 31, 2016. During that time, Jonathan Irish and Stefanie Payne were on the road in a 4X4 SUV, with an Airstream trailer in tow, travelling to all 59 U.S. National Parks in 52 weeks—about one per week. With parks located in the Caribbean, northern Alaska, American Samoa in the Pacific and everywhere in between, it was an ambitious, yet attainable goal. They plotted their route carefully and planned contingencies so that they could capture the best of every park in one calendar year.
Jonathan Irish is a professional outdoor, adventure, and travel photographer based in Washington, DC and represented by National Geographic Creative. He specialises in shooting active and adventure lifestyles, landscapes, and cultures abroad. Clients worldwide, including National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, The New York Times, BBC, CNN, and many others, have published his work. Jonathan is a proud FujiFilm X-Series photographer, and is also a board member of the American Society of Picture Professionals, DC-South Chapter.
Prior to this project, Stefanie Payne worked as a creative product development lead and communication strategist in NASA human spaceflight at the agency’s headquarters in Washington, DC. When not telling the story of human exploration in space, she writes about exploration on Earth—with articles appearing in The Huffington Post, The Travel Channel, blogs for The National Geographic Society, The Wall Street Journal, Business Insider, IBTimes, RootsRated, and the Daily Meal.
