100 Chinese Cities Above One Million People.
The article has listed 102 Chinese cities that have exceeded one million people, and it is likely to double in the next decade. Six of these cities have over ten million people each. Nevertheless, Tokyo outstrips Shanghai as the world’s largest city, with Delhi in second place. These three cities are projected to still remain the largest cities by 2030. The latest UN World Urbanization Prospects reflect the world’s urban population growing rapidly since 1950, increasing from less than 750 million to 3.9 billion in 2014. A further 2.5 billion are expected to be added to this by the middle of this century. The epicentre of this growth will be in Asia and Africa, as these two regions are urbanizing more rapidly than other regions of the world, according to the report. All of this now means that a majority of the world’s population live in urban areas. The United Nations uses three definitions for what constitutes a city, as not all cities may be classified using the same criteria. Cities may be defined as the cities proper, the extent of their urban area, or their metropolitan regions.
