This is about Austin, the capital city of Texas. It is the 11th most populated city in the USA with a population of over 931,000. No mean number for attempting to reach a zero food waste goal. Globally, we squander around 2.9 trillion pounds of food each year, and with 800 million hungry people, the food wasted can feed them twice over. If food-waste were a country, it would be the third largest producer of greenhouse gases in the world after China and the U.S.A. There are some helpful general guidelines in this article on the reduction of food wastage for each individual citizen, that is the only way it can work as we take personal responsibility for ourselves and our household.
