Is There A Plan B For Elephants?

With most countries now outlawing the sale of ivory, will the illegal trade in it continue to climb? Honestly, I do not expect trading in ivory to drop too much as long as there is a consumer demand for the elephants’ tusks. These animals will continue to be slaughtered. There needs to be a concerted effort in public education, especially in Asia and parts of the world where this trade is still flourishing. Some countries are still holding on to a substantial cache of ivory to prop-up the market, just waiting for the price to climb up due to law enforcement efforts in other countries, before selling the ivory. Perhaps these stocks need to be destroyed. This article looks at these complex issues.
