Bedok Methodist Church’s Carnival
The Carnival was part of the 70th birthday celebration for Bedok Methodist Church this year. Neighbours in the estate were invited, together with patients from one of the nearby Buddhist homes and members of the local mosque. The constituency’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Mohamad Maliki bin Osman, graciously visited, despite the Ramadan fast that is being observed by Muslims at this time. There were over ten food stalls from Hainanese chicken rice to Laksa and Gado Gado, and gourmet coffee and ice cream. Numerous games stalls and booths marketing household items were spread out in the compound, but they were unable to compete with the popularity of the dunking pool, where the senior pastor and other well-known members of the church council took their turns getting thoroughly wet. The children’s programmes were quite popular as they were all housed in several of our large air-conditioned rooms. All proceeds from this endeavour went towards two social service organisations supported by the Church.
