Christmas Trees Around the World

These beautiful conifers are harvested and decorated throughout the world during this Christmas season, and, of course, replicas are commercialised where natural fir trees are unavailable. Evergreen trees have traditionally been used to celebrate pagan and Christian winter festivals for thousands of years. Pagans used branches of it to decorate their homes during the winter solstice, while the Romans used fir trees to decorate their temples at the festival of Saturnalia. Christians use it as a sign of everlasting life with God. The tradition for using these trees for Christmas probably began about 1000 years ago in Northern Europe where most trees were hung upside down from the ceiling using chains.
