Photography of Brock Elbank
Brock Elbank’s career is as varied as the faces he photographs. He learnt his trade at Metro Studios in the 90s, working on commissions for the late Isabella Blow, before moving to Sydney to pursue a career in advertising, and eventually coming back to London, in 2013, when he began work on #Project60, capturing men with beards for his friend’s Beard Season melanoma charity. But away from beards, Brock had spent years connecting the dots of individual identity and mapping out unique constellations of raw beauty, from Sydney to London and beyond. The result is an intimate series of freckled faces, staring out at the camera, each with a story to tell. Strikingly, most of the sitters held their freckles with contempt, viewing them as imperfections and blemishes, but if beauty lies in imperfection, then these must be the most beautiful faces in the world.
