Sutton’s Hospital at Charterhouse

Charterhouse_Hospital_Toms,_c.1770.I did not imagine something like this existed in our modern day environment! Not as its name implies, this historic complex of buildings called Sutton’s Hospital at Charterhouse, located in the heart of Smithfield, London, is an almshouse endowed by Thomas Sutton in 1611. It is a home for gentleman pensioners; and those who live there are at least 60 years of age, professional, unmarried, in good health, in financial need, in need of companionship, and male. There are no vacancies presently.
