Feather Paintings by Jamie Homeister

jamiehomeister2“Featherwork is an incredibly humbling media,” she says. “The feathers splice, buckle, splinter and shred under the weight of paint. Layering them in my multi-feather formations is even more difficult to execute, as you have layers of light, airy, thinly threaded buoyancy.”

The Indiana-based folk artist of Canadian heritage and Native American culture uses delicate feathers as her canvas and meticulously builds up layers of paint on the fragile surface. These exquisite works of art depicting parrots, owls, eagles, finches, and even animals like foxes and bears are testimony to the skillfulness and patience of this master artisan.
