The enormity of our world's needs are overwhelming, and without a compassionate heart, distressing news can appear to be just black and white. Hopefully, by raising a few of these intractable issues here would encourage us to pray, and if necessary, to act.
The Crab from Space.
Image Credit: NASA - X-ray: CXC, Optical: STSCI, Infrared: JPL-Caltech.
The Crab Nebula is catalogued as M1, the first object on Charles Messier's famous list of things which are not comets. It is now known to be a supernova remnant, expanding debris from the death explosion of a massive star. This false-colour image combines data from space-based observatories, Chandra, Hubble, and Spitzer, to explore the debris cloud in X-rays (blue-white), optical (purple), and infrared (pink) light. One of the most exotic objects known to modern astronomers, the Crab Pulsar, a neutron star spinning 30 times a second, is the bright spot (centre). Like a cosmic dynamo, this collapsed remnant of the stellar core powers the Crab's emission across the electromagnetic spectrum. Spanning about 12 light-years, the Crab Nebula is 6,500 light-years away in the constellation Taurus.
The Dogon people of Mali have a rich history and are believed to be descendants of ancient Egyptians. They are renowned for their astronomical knowledge and wisdom dating back to 3200 B.C. The Dogon are also famous for their mask dances, wooden sculptures, and architecture. Their art is centred around religious values and ideals. Like many African societies, the Dogon are agriculturalists, cultivating millet, sorghum, and rice, as well as peanuts, onions, and tobacco. Today, there are approximately between 400,000 and 800,000 Dogon people in Mali.
The flag of Laos consists of three horizontal stripes, with the middle stripe in blue being twice the height of the top and bottom red stripes. In the middle is a white disc, the diameter of the disc is 4⁄5 the height of the blue stripe. The current flag was adopted on 2 December 1975, when it became a socialist state. The white disk in the centre symbolizes the unity of the Lao people under one nation. It is also said to represent a full moon against the Mekong River. The red stripes stand for the blood shed by the Lao people on both banks of the Mekong River in their struggle for freedom and independence from the French, and the blue symbolizes the Mekong River itself, a symbol of the nation's prosperity.

Memories are shockingly unreliable and change over time. Emotions, motivation, cues, context and frequency of use can all affect how accurately you remember something. This includes “flashbulb memories” which occur during traumatic events.

The aim of all those who live in God is to please our Lord Jesus Christ and become reconciled with God the Father through receiving the Holy Spirit, thus securing their salvation, for in this consists the salvation of every soul. If this aim and this activity are lacking, all other labour is useless and all other striving is vain. Every path of life which does not lead to this is without profit.
