Pillars of the Eagle Nebula in Infrared.
Image Credit: NASA, ESA, Hubble, HLA; Processing: Lluís Romero. Newborn stars are forming in the Eagle Nebula. Gravitationally contracting in pillars of dense gas and dust, the intense radiation of these newly-formed bright stars is causing surrounding material to boil away. This image, taken with the Hubble Space Telescope in near-infrared light, allows the viewer to see through much of the thick dust that makes the pillars opaque in visible light. The giant structures are light years in length and dubbed informally the Pillars of Creation. Associated with the open star cluster M16, the Eagle Nebula lies about 6,500 light years away, towards the split constellation Serpens Cauda (the tail of the snake).

The Blackfoot Indians were a nation of American Indians with four distinctive tribes, one in Montana and the other in Alberta, Canada. Fierce buffalo hunters, this nomadic tribe followed their food source. With no experience in pottery, crafts or agriculture, they relied on the land. While natural food sources and small subsidized, the buffalo were their main source of food, clothing, shelter, tools and weapons. Today the surviving heirs still live on much of the Montana land they had long ago.
The self-portrait is an 1889 oil on canvas painting by the post-impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh. The picture was painted in September that year, shortly before he left Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in southern France. This self-portrait, which may have been his last, was one of about 40 van Gogh produced over a 10-year period. He would paint himself because he often lacked the money to pay for models. He took the painting with him to Auvers-sur-Oise, near Paris, where he showed it to Dr Paul Gachet, who thought it was "absolutely fanatical." The Musée d'Orsay in Paris obtained the picture in 1986.
