This article in Christianity Today lists twelve of the most read Christian persecution stories during 2016. Throughout the world, approximately 322 Christians are killed each month for their faith, according to Open Doors, an organization that had worked in the world’s most oppressive countries empowering Christians who are persecuted for their beliefs. Each month, 214 churches and Christian properties are destroyed, and 772 forms of violence are perpetrated against Christians, such as beatings, abductions, rapes, arrests, and forced marriages. The top five countries where Christians faced extreme persecution are North Korea, Iraq, Eritrea, Afghanistan, and Syria.
