Desertification, We Have Been Almost Buried.

Having been through the vast Chadian desert some years ago, with its progressive desertification of the Sahel, as we made our way from N’Djamena, its capital, to a remote village along its volatile border with Sudan, a journey that took us nearly 48 hours, I have come to respect the power of the sandstorms. The fine grains of sand penetrated everything and destroyed anything that was glued together – my tough trekking boots bought for this occasion just gave up its sole on that ride out. I had a flimsy pair of slippers on for the return journey! This article highlights the desertification tragedy that is being played out in eastern Sudan.
