World’s Happiest, Safest, Richest Countries.
The Legatum Prosperity Index 2016 ranks 149 countries with 104 variables in 9 key sub-indices; perhaps more comprehensive than the Global Peace Index. A new sub-index on Natural Environment was added to the eight existing sub-indices of Health, Education, Governance, Safety and Security, Economic Quality (new name), Personal Freedom and Social Capital. Another important change this year is the introduction of the Prosperity Gap, which measures how well each country performs at converting its material wealth (essentially GDP per capita) into wellbeing and prosperity for its citizens, thereby focusing less on “what we have” and more on “what we produce with what we have”.
