This is a breakthrough in genetic identification of the genes that determine the features of facial distinctiveness. The application in forensics is revolutionary, but it does not simplify the legal quagmires that may confront it. Together with the wide availability of facial recognition technology today, not many will be able to cloak their identity unless an alternate facial transplant is undertaken. Perhaps we are a step closer to Minority Report, a 2002 future-oriented Tom Cruise detective movie.
