Why Some People Have Deeply Sensitive Personalities
People with sensory processing disorder (SPD) possess heightened or abnormal sensory perceptions and are overwhelmed by them; it may be in the areas of sight or sounds, or physical sensations or a combination of them. Although SPD is not yet documented in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, it is being investigated. This interesting article by Emma Young describes several experiences of children and adults with differing degrees of SPD, providing us with some idea how their intolerable suffering and coping strategies.
