Japan Holiday: Osaka Part 2
Looking over Osaka, one is able to spot a few green spaces that are principally temple and shrine grounds. On the site of the former Osaka Baseball Park, above the Nankai Namba Rail Network Station, Namba Parks, a 9-storey office and shopping complex with an integrated outdoor park was completed in 2003; another veritable oasis in the city.
The Parks’ architecture reminds me of two sandstone locations – Antelope Canyon in Arizona (above left) and Petra in Jordan. Rising 8 levels up, the colourful seasonal flowers of this well maintained hanging garden are a feast to the eyes and soul. Well-placed secluded benches are everywhere for those who desire some peace in this busy metropolis. And it is amazingly quiet too, perhaps due to its structured enclosures, and hemmed in by the surrounding buildings.
