Best Banknote of the Year 2015
New Zealand’s $5 orange and brown polymer bill was named the best banknote for 2015 in the International Bank Note Society’s annual award. The note was printed by the Canadian Bank Note Company in Ottawa, with the mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary facing South Island’s Mount Cook on its front, and a rare yellow-eyed penguin and local flora on the reverse. With over 40 eligible designs from 20 countries, the runners-up were Scotland’s Clydesdale Bank 5 pound note, Sweden’s 20 kronor note, Russia’s 100 rouble note, and Kazakhstan’s 20,000 tenge note.
