Massive Underground City Found In Cappadocia

derinkuyumapBeneath the city of Nevsehir in Cappadocia, central Turkey, lies a massive sprawling network of tunnels and rooms; an underground city of 460,000 square meter and reaching depths of 113 metres that was able to accommodate in excess of 20,000 people. Other caves were also discovered earlier in Ozkonak, Mazikoy and Derinkuyu. Christian Byzantine frescos found in some of the caves indicated that churches may have at some point used these underground facilities.
