It is called NOMOPHOBIA: the anxiety of loosing access to your smartphone. I guess we do not know whether we suffer from it till it actually happens, and our reactions inform us of our malady. Obsession perhaps is a precursor to addiction; like checking it constantly even though no notification was received, or when a notification comes through, disrupting an ongoing conversation or social exchange – rude I think, and checking it immediately.
