Paper Creations Of Sue Blackwell
Su Blackwell has created beautiful wreaths of flowers using cutouts of paper. Called Sertum Orchidaceum, they’re made with a steel frame, a book, and then paper that has been cut out to resemble real, living flowers. Using a scalpel, Blackwell cuts, by hand, these flowers and then arranges them in a way that you could almost think that you’re looking at actual floral displays. Her paper-cutting creations go beyond flowers; a variety that truly depicts pictorial storytelling straight out of books.
Artist Su Blackwell is an artist working predominantly within the realm of paper. She employs this delicate, accessible medium and use irreversible, destructive processes to reflect on the precariousness of the world we inhabit and the fragility of our life, dreams and ambitions.
